The importance of communicating aesthetically and efficiently with data has never been more relevant. In this talk, I present ways to visualise statistics relating to politics and public policy. I will speak briefly about designing a visualization framework for graphing different legislatures – e.g. the horseshoe parliament in Australia or the semi-circle layout in the US Congress - in R. I will also spend some time talking about the role of data visualisation in think tanks – both in terms of my position as a Data Visualisation Analyst at the United States Studies Centre and the broader conversation about visualising public policy and political data for a general audience and the importance of data visualisation for parsing information.
